JOCELYNS THOUGHTS: 1. I was just asked, How do you get your information? 2. Another one commented, Outside members seem to know more about whats going in our town then us people who live here. Now thats crazy. 3. Another responded, I dont even know whats going on the band office level...but the leader has been going to meeting..meeting I dont know what about thou....maybe debeers or ring of fire...no info from them. 4. The following was my response: WHERE DO I OBTAIN MY INFORMATION?: 1) Attawapiskat First Nation Band Members—on and off reserve. 2) Attawapiskat First Nation—Band Council and staff. 3) Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service 4) Ontario Court of Justice 5) Crown Attorney Office 6) Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY: 1) As Attawapiskat First Nation band members, we have a right to access information relating to all band affairs. 2) The Attawapiskat First Nation has a fiduciary duty to meet their obligations to the band members. 5. Actually, the above is a short list of my sources. My work involves hours of research, phone calls, meetings via conference calls, lobbying, activism, committees such as Special Committee on Violence Against Indigenous Women, etc. 6. I embarked on this journey to help my people become emancipated. 7. I had a professor make the statement, Attawapiskat is one of the richest communities in Canada. In resources. So why are they the poorest? 8. Do not be afraid to ask the questions. Here are a few: (1) Why are we not being informed by AFN? (2) Why are we not being consulted? (3) Where are my information packages pertaining to everything that involves AFN dealings? (4) Why is there no transparency? (5) Where is the accountability? (6) Why is there ongoing nepotism and favouritism? (7) How are my finances being spent? (8) What is being done to address the ongoing conflict of interest issues? (9) What is being done to address misogyny? (10) What measures are being taken to address gender inequality? (11) What are you doing to address violence against women? (12) What is being done to address the failure of fiduciary duty? 9. As in the words of my professor, Why are they the poorest? Challenge the status quo. Our children are depending on you to speak up on their behalf. 10. You, the people, have the right to say, Stop. No more political violence.
