JOEL MOGOROSI AND THE BURUNDI MUTI: It is still an issue of discussion at some football fanatics gatherings around Gaborone. That Joel Mogorosi was only able to score that goal against Burundi because he had just removed some portion that was placed by their goal posts. Mogorosi has himself admitted to removing the charm after he saw the Burundi players plant it, believing it could have been the reason the Zebras couldnt score. Travel back to the 2000 AFCON quarter final clash in Lagos where Senegal led Nigeria almost the entire match with a 7th minute goal and in the 75th minute a Nigerian official ran onto the pitch to remove some portions that were placed in the Senegal net. Immediately after that incident, Julius Aghahowa equalised for Nigeria and a few minutes later went on the winning goal for the Super Eagles. Would you also argue that it was because of removing the charms that goals were eventually scored? Whats your take on this matter? Here is what Joel Mogorosi said after the Burundi match: “Sometimes we have to be honest, we are in Africa and everyone has his own beliefs; I don’t know if it works, but because I saw them place those things there, I decided Im going to remove them to see what will happen.” He added: . “I know it was risky as I placed that thing inside my sock, but football is about risks. Besides, I am a soldier for my country and as a soldier, you have to take risks to get the victory you want. I had to take the risk and die for my country because when you fight in a war, it is important to kill them (your enemies) before they kill you.
