JOHANNESBURG - The 16 Generations actors who were fired for going on strike sent a letter to the soapies production this week house stating they are ready to go back to work, City Press reported on Sunday. The actors went on strike, their second in less than a year, last month and were fired on August 18. This letter was sent following negotiations with the SABC chief operating officer, Hlaudi Motsoeneng. They are willing to return to conditions agreed to in November 2013 that were not implemented. According to the paper, not all their demands were met but they would apparantly be getting more money, annual increases relative to inflation and three-year contracts. The actors said they would like to see changes that were agreed to after they first went on strike in November. Their lawyer, Bulelani Mzamo re-iterated, They are willing to return to conditions agreed to in November 2013 that were not implemented. It is not yet confirmed but highly likely that producer Mfundi Vundla will settle with the actors. It is reported that he was due to run out of episodes to air at the end of this month. His plan to formulate a new Generations would also have required a total rehaul of the soapie, which would have resulted in the soapie would having to go off air until this rehaul was complete. This would mean that Vundla would not meet his obligation to provide the SABC with the drama that 68% of South African viewers choose to tun e into at the 8pm time slot.
