JOHN CARPENTER STARMAN Ok so we all survived Halloween so I thought Id change the pace after that run of Carpenter Horror films with the heart warming Sci-Fi, love story that is Starman! Released in 1984 the story is about an alien, played by Jeff Bridges, who has come to Earth in response to the invitation found on the gold phonograph record installed on the Voyager 2 space probe. On being shot down by the military he heads to the remote house of Jenny Hayden (Karen Allen) and assumes the form of her late husband by the process of using his DNA which he finds in a lock of hair stored in a old photograph book. Obviously at first Karens character is horrified and scarred to find some creature who looks like her late husband walking around and the Starman kidnaps her and forces her travel across America to reach his pick up point. Slowly, as she realises the gentle nature of Bridges character, via events such as resurrecting a dead deer killed by a hunter, she warms to him and in time they fall in love. Karen teaches the alien about life on earth and guides him through, what seems like insanity to him, and keeps him safe from the perusing military- who after inviting him here in the first place, NOW just want to cut him up on a lab table!!!! And by the end they make love while traveling on a freighter train and the Starman leaves Jenny pregnant with a child he says will help teach humanity!! My favourite line in the film is when a young military officer tells his superior, He yelled Greetings, then melted his tire iron!!! youtube/watch?v=OgF2lbAL6RA
