JOSHUA – THE MAN WHO LEFT NOTHING UNDONE Joshua 11:15 As the LORD commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Moses. Whatever this world says about a man when he is gone is just a bunch of mush! What God says about you when you are gone is right on target. Jehoram; 2 Chronicles 21:20 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Howbeit they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings. Amaziah; 2 Chronicles 25:2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart. Joshua; Joshua 11:15 As the LORD commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Moses. No one else in the Bible, or in history for that matter has had that said about them, but rather the opposite, they left everything undone. What was the Secret of Joshua’s fulfilled life? I. HE HAD THE EXAMPLE OF A GREAT MAN – MOSES Joshua 1:1-2 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses minister, saying, Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. Proverbs 13:20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. • Man is a creature that is led more by patterns than precepts. • He who has only himself as a copy seldom improves. • A man that won’t walk by another man’s light is a fool. That is why I tell the young people to choose your friends carefully. 2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? You can have your name written in stone, but most have theirs written in WATER. II. HE HAD THE ENCOURAGEMENT OF A GRACIOUS GOD Joshua 1:2-6 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast. There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them. Not a raw-raw sis boom bah you go and I’ll root for you kind of encouragement, but rather I have already made the way and will stand with you til the end. Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; How about that!!! 1 Kings 8:54-56 And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven. And he stood, and blessed all the congregation of Israel with a loud voice, saying, Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant. All the promises in that book are mine; 1 Peter 4:19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. Hey God did not chose you because you were high and he won’t forsake you because you are low. God has in Himself; • all the power to defend me • all wisdom to direct me • all mercy to pardon me • all grace to enrich me • all righteousness to clothe me • all goodness to supply me • all happiness to crown me III. HE HAD THE EXHORTATION OF GOD’S BRILLIANT BRIGHT LIGHT Joshua 1:7-8 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Two things God’s Word will do; 1. It will inform you; Obedience must be based on PRECEPT not PREFERENCE. On COMMAND not on CONVENIENCE. The very first thing to consider is what does God say. Our MAKER is our LAWMAKER! Why is there so much confusion in churches today? Matthew 22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. 2. It will inflame you; Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Luke 24:32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? Jeremiah 20:9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay. If this Bible is not true then nothing matters; but if it is true, nothing else matters. “I entered this world’s great library doors and crossed the acres of polished floors” I searched and searched their stacks and nooks, and finally settled on the Book of Books” IV. HE HAD THE EVIDENCE OF A GLORIOUS HELPER Joshua 5:13-15 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant? And the captain of the LORDS host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so. A. Peter was loosed from Prison B. Paul said the Lord stood with him C. He is always the fourth man in the fire V. HE HAD THE ENLISTMENT OF GOOD MEN To share His Burden Joshua 8:3 So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against Ai: and Joshua chose out thirty thousand mighty men of valour, and sent them away by night. Thank God for the ones who back the man of God and hold up his hands in the battle. 1 Samuel 30:24 For who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike.
