JUBA: Eight Senior Rebels Defect Back to the Government. #SouthSudan #SSudan Eight seniors rebels officials, that included a former state minister, a former advisor and a senior rebel commander, arrived in Juba yesterday, September 20, 2014 after defecting from Riek Machar rebels. The officials arrived at Juba International Airport at 1415 on Ethiopian Airline Flight No. ET-351. Yiey Puoc Lur, the former state government minister and former Upper Nile State Member of Parliament for Maiwut County and Bith Thiyang a former advisor to the governor led the defectors. Yiey Puoc revealed they abandoned Riek Machar’s rebellion because Riek “demanded a post of Prime Minister which was given to him by IGAD but South Sudanese government was [initially] against it but for sake of peace, they (the government) accepted that.” He added, Riek fears what would he tell Nuer whose relatives perish in this war just to be a Prime Minister. The rebels were welcomed at the airport by government officials and are expected to meet party officials soon for debriefing. © 2014 • Talk of Juba/National Courier •
