JULY 6 TODAY’S DEVOTION POURED INTO A MOULD “But thanks be to God that you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.” (Rom_6:17, NIV) Picture a skilfully crafted mould; made from a single work of sculptured art, a masterpiece so uniquely magnificent that it merits reproduction. With great care the masterpiece is covered and a form is made, from which a mould is created. The purpose of this mould is to take melted materials and fuse them into a stunning replica of the original. After the work is cast, and sets until it cures; it is then brought forth and finished — imperfections cleared away, excess removed. The final touch is the polishing which causes the work of art to glow with a cast of glory that fills the viewer with wonder. Indeed, one can hardly tell the difference between the original and the copy. Do you know that this is exactly what God wants to do with you? He wants to make you so exactly like Jesus that others would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two of you! How does He do it? By the fire of His Spirit and the mould of His Word. Paul describes it as “the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.” The Greek wording literally means to be poured into a mould. Practically speaking, God wants us to become pliable and teachable in His hands; so that He can pour us into the mould of Scripture. Then, as we become set by the shaping influence of the mould, He brings us forth as men and women of the Word – who bear in our character and conduct the likeness of Jesus. Perhaps the old Gospel standard says it best: Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me. Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me. Mould me, fill me, use me, Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me. By Pastor James Ryle Director, TruthWorks Ministries
