JUNIOR UPDATE R1 U14 CSFC U14s vs Hoppers Crossing CAROLINE SPRINGS 1.0 3.0 5.1 7.3. (45) HOPPERS CROSSING 2.2 3.5 7.8 11.10 (76) BEST Max, Cade, Jayden, Ash, Riley, Kane GOALS Ash 4, Max 1, Ethan 1, Bailee 1 A hard fought team effort today. I asked the boys to focus on the effort and not the scoreboard and they did just that. There was some super individual efforts and some fantastic team play. Unfortunately, the lack of numbers showed out in the end, with Hoppers Crossing running away with the game in the last quarter. We have some work to do around our preparation and around our set ups. Overall a gutsy effort by the boys. DEFENSE There were some superb efforts in defense but we tended to let ourselves down with our positioning. We were caught out of position on a number of occasions and this led to a number of cheap goals for Hoppers. As the game wore on we lacked run and our decision making suffered. On the plus side we had an number of boys playing in defense for the first time and some great experience was gained. MIDFIELD Another good performance by the engine room. We were winning the clearances easily and there was some positive signs. Again the boys showed signs of fatigue in the last quarter and the defensive efforts dropped off. There was some fantastic tap work by the ruckmen and some sublime clearance work by the on ball division. Our usage into the forward line lacked a bit of thought, as we often kicked the ball to the opposition. Overall, we have a strong on ball unit that looks like it will be able to mix it up with most teams. FORWARD Most of our goals came from great team work. When we dropped our eyes and looked around we spotted up targets which resulted in goals. Also pleasing was the effort of our forwards to chase defensively. This is going to be important later in the year. Our kicking for goal was accurate and we made the most of our opportunities. We will need to work on our options going forward in the future. I was really happy with the effort today, we were beaten by the better side on the day but we can all hold our heads up high. Well done to all the boys and thank you to the volunteers who helped out today.
