JUST IN SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for DAMAGING WIND For people in the Hunter, Metropolitan and parts of the Illawarra, Central Tablelands and North West Slopes and Plains Forecast Districts. Issued at 5:56 pm Monday, 13 October 2014. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Gosford, Scone, Cessnock, Sydney, Penrith, Parramatta, Campbelltown, Katoomba, Tamworth, Gunnedah and Moree. Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Central West Slopes and Plains district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED. At 6pm the line of thunderstorms moving through Sydney is generally producing wind gusts of 60-70 km/h; however some gusts closer to 90 km/h cannot be ruled out. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep clear of fallen power lines. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
