JUST IN: The National Museum of the Philippines signed a board resolution yesterday declaring the Boholano churches of Santo Niño Parish Church of Cortes, and Santisima Trinidad Parish Church of Loay, National Cultural Treasures (NCT). The Parish Church of Sta. Monica in Alburquerque, on the other hand, is declared an Important Cultural Property (ICP). To date, Bohol has the most number of NCTs (Baclayon Church, Dauis Church, Loboc Church, Loon Church, Maribojoc Church, Dimiao Church, Cortes Church, Loay Church, Watchtowers of Dauis, Panglao, Pamilacan, Loay, Punta Cruz and Balilihan) and ICPs (Panglao Church Complex and Alburquerque Church) more than any other province in the country. Under the National Heritage Act of 2009 (RA 10066), churches that are declared NCTs will be given priority funding by the government for any restoration work.
