JUSUN Strike costs inmate life In Minna : The ongoing industrial action embark upon by the judiciary staff union of nigeria( JUSUN) has claimed its first casualty in Niger State as an inmate on awaiting trial at the minna medium security prison dies. The inmate simply identify as Shuaibu was said to have met his death as a result of yet to be identified ailment ravaging the both two prisons in minna. Shuaibu was said to have been on awaiting trial in this prison in the last three years while standing trial before a chief magistrate suit on a two count charges of conspiracy and armed robbery. Since his incarceration at the prison, he only appeared in court only three times in court and he has not been taken to court to answer charges brought against him by the men of the SCID of the state police command. He was said to have fell sick in early December last year, efforts to convey him to hospital for proper medication by the authority of the prison could not yield the needed result as a result of the nationwide strike embarked upon by Doctors and Health workers. His health condition got worst early last week as further efforts to reach the court for proper documentation by the chief magistrate presiding over his case failed as a result of the ongoing strike action of the JUSUN. The strike action by JUSUN will continue to claim lives of inmates in minna prisons as a result of yet to be identified strange ailment ravaging the prison in the last three months. In a telephone interview with this reporter at the weekend, the comptroller of prison in Niger State Alh. Yahaya Musa while confirming the report stated that death is normal and there is nothing bad if an inmate died in the prison. Any body can die at any given time what is so special about the death of inmate. He however denied the report of any strange ailment in the prison stating that journalists should endeavor to cross check their information before rushing to the press. Meanwhile the remain of the inmate was interred at the Tunga Muslims buried ground opposite the new prison according to Islamic rite by some inmate and prison officials. Reported by Mijinyawa Naseer.
