Jack/St. Malo Achieves First Oil in Deepwater Gulf of Mexico Almost two years after leaving Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea aboard the Dockwise Vanguard, the Jack/St. Malo deepwater floating production facility has achieved first oil today, according to Statoil, a minority partner in the deepwater development. The facility has a production capacity of 177,000 bbls of oil and 42.5 million cubic feet of natural gas per day and is operated by Chevron. The field taps in to the Lower Tertiary formation located at the ultra-deepwater Walker Ridge area of the US Gulf of Mexico (GoM) in waters 7,000 feet [2,134 m] deep. Statoil estimates the combined total recoverable resources are in excess of 500 million barrels of oil equivalents.
