Jackson Lake Forecast By: Capt. Brandon Broach bbroach27@gmail 678-283-8855 Lake is full and slightly stained. The bait in Jackson Lake is stacked up in the rivers and creeks. The schools of shad should be very easy to find. First thing in the morning they will be pushed up on the walls and docks in the creek and river bends. Top water baits are good once you have located the shad. Natural colored Sammies and Rico baits are very effective for this bite. Buzz Baits also work well, white for clear water and black for stained. Try paralleling these lures on the docks and walls. Stay about a cast from the bank and work them all the way back to the boat. Your strike will either be on the wall or half way back. If the wind is up and blowing hard switch to a 3/8 ounce double willow -leaf white spinner bait. As the day progresses and the sun starts to rise, the fish will start making their way back down the channel. Work the same areas over with a shallow or medium running crank bait, depending on water depth. You always want to stay in contact with the lake bottom. Use bright colors for stained water and natural colors for clear water. This bite should be good until noon, or all day if over cast. Once this bite shuts down you can find fish on brush piles in 15-20 feet of water, or on points and ledges. You want a bait that will get down to these depths and fish this through the structure. I use a heavy rattle trap or red eyed shad in either chrome or gold colors. You can also use 3/8 ounce football head jigs or shaky heads. Fish it on a tight line, because a lot of your strikes will hit on the fall. Be conscious of your color selection because the lake is constantly changing during the winter months. Good luck.
