Jacob Bowman remember when you kids used to scream that there was a big ass fish chasing me every time I fell down water skiing in Lake Oroville. We used to talk about the giant sturgeon in the bottom of the lake... well here you go! In 1910, these fishermen hooked the sturgeon in a hole near Oroville, and they were towed around all day and all night. Next day, they had a blacksmith fit a hook on an iron ring attached to a cable, let it down to snag the fish which was pulled out with a horse. They sold it to the Chinese for 25 cents a pound. Sturgeon are quite rare in the Feather River now. The picture exhibit is in the Centennial Park on the levee. (Rex Burress)
