Jacobs Ladder Part heavy metal, part New Age, this song is not - TopicsExpress

Jacobs Ladder Part heavy metal, part New Age, this song is not about the vision seen by Jacob in the Bible but rather the atmospheric phenomena that has been named after this vision. The tympani pounding parts rock like apocalyptic earthquakes. Alex plays like hes ascending the ladder in the clouds parting section. Neil (1985): We built a whole song around a picture. We wanted to build a song around the phenomena called Jacobs Ladder, where the rays break through the clouds. I came up with a couple of short pieces of lyrics to set the musical parts up. And we built it all musically trying to describe it cinemstically. As if our music were a film. We have a luminous sky happening and the whole stormy, gloomy atmosphere, and all of a sudden these shafts of brilliance come bursting through and we try to create that musically. This song simply describes the phenomenon of the sun breaking through the clouds in visible rays, as it sometimes does after a rain or on a cloudy day. The actual name seems to be one of those traditional names for natural things which has probably been around for ages. I think Geddy actually suggested the idea to me, after hearing his mother-in-law use the name. It had a nice sound to it, and of course the event itself is a beautiful and inspiring one. https://youtube/watch?v=d09-oSVY9iw
