Jamaat-e-Islami s Acting Secretary General condemns Indian BJP leader’s comment; terms his comment as a threat to sovereignty of Bangladesh Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami , Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement protesting and condemning the boastful claim of the BJP leaders of leaving one-third of the Bangladeshi territory. “Indian BJP leader Shubrammoniam Swami had claimed to leave one-third of the Bangladeshi territory. His proposal is to draw a parallel line from Khulna to Sylhet in order to hand over this land to India. Such remark from the Indian politician is a certain threat against the independence and sovereignty of the state. We have been observing with great concern that, due to failure and submissive foreign policy of Bangladesh government, the Indian leader dares to snatch one third area of Bangladesh away. The government could not dissolve any visible disputes with India. To this government, public interest is not the key concern. Their prime interest is to defend the interest of India. In recent times, by providing power corridor to India, the government of Bangladesh has defended the Indian interest and foiled the interest of the people of Bangladesh. Besides, the government severely failed to dissolve the crises including Farakka dam, rights of Teesta River, Tipaimukh dam issue, Tin Bigha corridor and other enclaves transfer, killing of Bangladeshi civilians in the frontier etc. On the contrary, the government is signing one after one unjust and imbalanced treaty with India. The Indian leader had dared to claim one- third area of Bangladesh due to submissive and pro-Indian foreign policy of the government. This claim is nothing but a massive blow upon the independence and sovereignty of the state. We are vehemently condemning such boastful and indecent comment of the Indian BJP leader and urging the Bangladeshi government to clarify their position before the people in this regard. Besides, I am calling upon the countrymen to raise their voice against the dominant and aggressive Indian policy.”
