James Chen nominated me to share my top ten favorite pieces of classical music, and so here is my list, in order of significance. 10. Requiem in D Minor - Lacrimosa by W.A. Mozart (I first heard this piece in that Key and Peele sketch - the soccer one - and, though I found the song to be quite hilarious in the ridiculous context, I loved the emotional content that Mozart delivers in this short piece.) 9. Sospiri by Edward Elgar (This piece got Cambiata to 9th in the TMEA String Honor Orchestra Contest last year. And I was sitting concert master. Truly awesome to listen to and think about.) 8. Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber (This song seems to get more melancholy each time I listen to it. Great for rainy days and studying.) 7. Air on a G-String by J.S. Bach (The theme of this piece can only be described as bittersweet. Was featured two other great films, Se7en and Battle Royale.) 6. Violin Concerto No. 1 in A Minor by Jean-Baptiste Accolay (The first solo outside of a Suzuki book that I memorized. It marked my transition from a sufficient junior high violin player to the virtuoso* that I am today.) *sarcasm 5. Caprice No. 5 by Niccolo Paganini (... is all I can say every time I hear this piece. I hope to reach this level one day. Was also featured in a great film (Sympathy for Lady Vengeance) and a terrible song (Imaginary Places - Busdriver).) 4. Violin Concerto in E Minor by Felix Mendelssohn (I played this both the first and third movements of this song. Though I cant say I did them justice, they were extremely fun to play.) 3. Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by J.S. Bach/Leopold Stokowski (Seven Lakes played this song my freshman year. In my opinion, the best song of the year, and I still get chills just thinking about playing it.) 2. 1812 Overture by Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky (This piece got me listening to classical music. I cannot describe how life-changing it was to hear it, so go and listen to it yourselves.) 1. Sad Violin - Unknown (The pinnacle of all things violin and music. Featured everywhere in Vines, MLG videos, and spoofs, this piece is why musicians exist.) https://youtube/watch?v=-EQ6eHeBrhM I nominate Duncan Gerungan and Robert Alejandria to do this.
