James Joyce famously remarked that he fled Dublin as a young man - TopicsExpress

James Joyce famously remarked that he fled Dublin as a young man and never stopped thinking about it for the rest of his life. The same could be said of my mother and Eastern Kentucky (or me and Tulsa, for that matter!). At least she let her feelings be known: my father was much more veiled. He was a passionate "hobby farmer", but I have only recently begun to discover how passionate. He owned 33 acres at the NE corner of the Okmulgee Beeline, right at the old turnoff to Mounds, and from about the 3rd grade through HS graduation working on his projects out there was one of Mary and my sources of employment ( some of you who read this have been out there). It was always difficult to buy gifts for them, until it was my pleasure, about 25 years ago, to discover Wendell Berry, Kentucky farmer/author, and started to give them his books. Here is the first one I discovered, when Berry was interviewed on WBAI and read bits of it. I recommend it highy. Do you know him, Lizzie Ross?
