James O Driscoll Ok folks, there is one last shot at this Water - TopicsExpress

James O Driscoll Ok folks, there is one last shot at this Water Services Bill. According to article 27 of the constitution the President, within four days of a Bill being passed by both houses of the Oireachtas, can declare that because the bill is of such national importance it can be put to the people for a referendum. A set amount of TDs and Senators must however put this to him in writing within the time period. So that means if the Bill passes the Seanad on Monday, he must be notified in writing by the TDs and Senators by 6pm on Friday 26th December. According to todays figures the numbers required are 30 Senators and 56 TDs to put their case in writing. So therefore it is absolutely worth while sending an email to all of them again pointing out that under Article 27 they can ask the President to agree that the Bill qualifies as something of such national importance as the safeguarding of our water against the privatisation of it etc. So please get emailing them all and lobbying them to ask them to follow through on this, our last opportunity, to secure the nations ownership of Irish water. president.ie/contact/
