Jamie Hubley Scholarship for Mental Health Jamie Hubley was a shooting star. An adored son and brother. Fierce friend. Saucy singing sensation. Forceful figure skater. And he was courageous beyond words. But he also struggled with depression and loneliness -- and from the bullying that came with being the only openly gay teen in his Ottawa-area high school. Established in loving tribute of Jamie Hubley, two annual scholarships with a focus on mental health will be awarded to residents of Ottawa. 1. The first scholarship was established to help foster excellence in mental health care by increasing the human resource pool of skilled professionals. A $2,000.00 scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis to an individual to train/study at a post-secondary level in the field of Mental Health. Eligibility Criteria: • Ottawa resident • Educational and vocational goals related to the field of mental health • Demonstrated need for financial assistance • Applicants must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a recognized educational institute Application form available HERE 2. The second scholarship. Recognizing the immense value offered by individuals with an experience of mental illness, the aim of the second Jamie Hubley Memorial Scholarship is to increase the educational opportunities for mental health consumers. This annual $2,000.00 scholarship will be used to support an individual with experience of mental illness/mental health disorder as they pursue a post-secondary education. Eligibility Criteria: • Ottawa resident • Experience of mental health disorder/mental illness • Demonstrated need for financial assistance • Applicants must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a recognized educational institute Application form available HERE Selection Procedure: A Selection Committee convened by the Hubley Family will review each application and select the scholarship recipients.
