Jamie Lloyd steps down from Back to the Future musical Jamie Lloyd has stepped down as director of the forthcoming musical of Back to the Future. Lloyd confirmed to The Stage that he had left the production, but said the process had been “amicable”. It is understood that creative differences are behind the decision. Announced in January, the musical was due to have a book by Lloyd, Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale. It has music and lyrics by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard. According to the Daily Mail, the musical will now run in 2016, instead of 2015, when it was planned to open to tie in with the film’s 30th anniversary. Lloyd told the Mail that it was “a case of wanting to stand by my vision,” and added: “You absolutely have to believe in it or there’s not much point.” As reported by The Stage, the musical is produced by Donovan Mannato and CJ E and M, with Soutra Gilmour – a long-term collaborator of Lloyd’s – lined up to design the show, and Jon Clark overseeing lighting. Paul Kieve will provide the show’s illusions and the production will have musical supervision by Alan Williams.
