Jammu Lawyers Intensify Strike, Demand SHO’s Suspension =>The Jammu wing of state High Court today remained paralysed for the seventh consecutive day as lawyers have intensified their strike in an alleged manhandling of the lawyers by a senior police officer. Shouting slogans against the police department and demanding suspension of the Station House Officer (SHO), hundreds of lawyers today protested outside court premises and suspended the routine work. “It is unfortunate that the senior police officers despite continue strike by the lawyers, has not taken any action against the cop for ‘misbehaving’ and ‘thrashing’ our colleague advocate in a full public view,” a senior lawyer said. He alleged that one of the advocates namely Harshvardhan on April 16 was thrashed by the police officer (Station House Officer Gandhi Nagar) in Nanak Nagar area and was also kept in lock up for few hours, who was bailed out later. “We demand suspension of the cop followed by an independent enquiry comprising members of police department and judiciary,” he added. Meanwhile, various political, social organizations besides NGOs have extended their support to the lawyers strike. However, the people visiting the courts are suffering due to the suspended work in the courts.
