Jammu, Mar 4: At a time when Jammu and Kashmir is battling with unemployment crises and lakhs of educated youth are striving hard for jobs, State government Tuesday admitted that close to 80,000 posts are vacant in various departments. This was revealed by Finance Minister in written reply to a question by PDP member Abdul Rehman Veeri in Legislative Assembly. In the reply, government admitted that 77,970 posts are vacant in various departments including 10,416 gazetted vacancies. The School Education department tops in the list of vacancies with total of 22,894 posts including 3,375 gazetted posts followed by Hospitality and Protocol department with 9,067 and Health and Medical Education department with 7,019 posts. However, government claimed that it has accelerated the pace of filling up vacant posts. “The recruitment process is in full swing to fill up the vacant posts and for this, government empowered Services Selection Board by posting more members in the Board. For the purpose of class-IV vacancies, various department selection committees are in position. These committees have been geared up and presently the process of filling up of class-IV vacancies is under way at different stages in various departments and the same is also likely to be completed soon,” the reply reads. Besides, the General Administration Department has directed all administrative departments to activate Departmental Promotion Committees and hold the meetings for filling up of promotion quota vacancies at the earliest. Meanwhile, the State government avoided direct reply on its controversial New Recruitment Policy and justified it with Sher-e-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for the Youth (SKEWPY). MLA Ashwani Kumar Sharma had asked the question: “Weather it is a fact the un-employment and government’s New Recruitment Policy is major cause of frustration among youth in State?” The government reply said: “Government accords high priority to employment, particularly to the youth. The Government has accordingly launched a comprehensive policy called SKEWPY in 2010 in order to address unemployment problem of youth.”
