Jamo Borthwick, Director of Walkin’ on Water Surf School in Coolangatta, delivered Indias first training course for surfing instructors at Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu, from 11-15 July. The eighth century Shore Temple provided a visually spectacular backdrop as 23 participants developed their training skills in the Bay of Bengal surf over the course of five days in a program organised by the Surfing Federation of India. Surfing has taken off at several beaches across South India as fisherfolk and city dwellers alike discover a passion for one of Australias favourite aquatic pastimes, and competitions have already taken place in Vizag, Puducherry and Kovalam. Jamo represents the International Surfing Federation, the international governing body for surfing.
