Jan. 22 Where is God? At the Martin Luther King gathering - TopicsExpress

Jan. 22 Where is God? At the Martin Luther King gathering Monday, it was easy to sense the presence of God. It was in the music, the message, the history, the spirit of the people. This afternoon I met with a lady at our church whose husband died suddenly right before Christmas. “Asking where God is?” is not as simple today. I imagine that Correta Scott King had hard questions for God in the days after King’s death. My friend at church is having a hard time feeling His presence. She prays, she reads, she listens but she says she is mostly numb. God does not seem to be listening. I have no easy answers to give her. I can say God is near and listening, but implying it is her fault or her lack of faith that causes the problem seems shallow and insensitive. I can simply say that God is patient and understanding. I will not say it is God’s will that she is alone, I can simply say that suffering and pain is part of life even for those who believe. A close pastor friend of mine lost his wife after a long illness. He never turned from God, but he said that there was a cloud or fog for almost a year that kept God at bay. Paul says that we see through a glass darkly. My pastor friend says that it was faith, blind faith that kept him in touch with God. Tom Dunn
