Janaza Knowledge Etiquette When visiting a home where someone is on their last stage, go with wudu and take your Yaseen book with you. You should go with the intention to read and help the person in his/her last stages. Ghusal When the person has passed, and after the proper paperwork is issued, the first stage is to give the person Ghusal. The body can be taken to a Mosque or Cemetery that has facilities or arrangements can be made at the home of the deceased. Men will wash men and women will wash the women. During the bathing process, one should refrain from saying anything negative about the experience or the person or the condition of the body. If there is noor present from the deceased person, this can be mentioned. Quran/Yaseen can be read by all around the deceased or in the Mosque. Normally Janaza prayers is held after the noon or afternoon prayers (ie: Zohr and Asr), after which the deceased will be taken to the cemetery for burial. Cemetery In a Muslim Cemetery, the body will be laid in the grave with the head facing Qibla or the head is turned slightly to the right. When you go to the cemetery for the Janaza do just that. It is best to not show how knowledgeable you are by repeatedly asking questions (ie: is the head facing Qibla). The people in charge of the burial have done more than 400/500 burials already and they know what they are doing. Burial When laying the deceased in the grave read “Bismillahe Wa Ala Millate Rasoollillahe”. After the lid is placed on the liner family and friends will put some dirt on the grave. When throwing the first handful of soil say “Minha Khalak Na Kum”. When throwing the second handful of soil, say “Wa Feeha Noeeda Kum” and then throw the third handful of soil say “Wa Minha Nukregakum Tharatul Ukra”. When asked to help, then go forward to help. Do not get into a frenzy and do a lot of unnecessary things to spoil the serene atmosphere. Do not Gossip and or Smoke in the Cemetery. This is sacred ground. Share this
