Jane Sez:- A message to @BBCNews @Guardian @Independent @itvnews @thismorning from the #WOWpetition. Id like to ask why you august and respected news / information bodies are choosing not to report one of the biggest social issues of our times? The recent, current and forthcoming cuts to the benefits of sick and disabled people in the UK are causing hardship and deaths. Yet this is going unreported, why is this? To stand by and watch what is happening is a disgrace. Are you choosing to ignore or being asked not to report? The only British newspaper covering this subject in any great detail is the Daily Mirror (@DailyMirror) and for this we applaud them. A recent event in Parliament Square, 10k Cuts & Counting (10kcuts.org), which was a collaboration between WOWpetition and the Dean of St Pauls, the Reverend David Ison, was barely reported (a brief mention on the BBC website) - however this event was to mark the 10,600 plus deaths of people who have died within six weeks of being found fit for work after their Work Capability Assessment by Atos. Surely this is a newsworthy item?? The WOWpetition calls for a Cumulative Impact Assessment, an end to the Work Capability Assessment (as voted for by the British Medical Association), an Independent inquiry into Welfare Reform and a New Deal for sick & disabled people, their family & carers. We are found on the governments e-petition website, petition number 43154, we currently have 68,000 signatures, we need to secure 100,000 by December 12th when the petition closes. My question to you is, will you help the 11* million sick, disabled and long term ill people of the UK by helping promote our petition and by reporting exactly what is happening to citizens of the UK, or will you choose to ignore. #WOWpetition has the support of many bodies, including Amnesty International UK who recognise the human rights of sick & disabled people in the UK are being abrogated, the UN, the charities Oxfam & Scope, Unite the Union and many more. We also have the support of many celebrities - our sponsor is Francesca Martinez, @chessmartinez, who herself has cerebral palsy and a founder of the Peoples Assembly movement. To stand by and watch as something appalling is unfolding and not to take action is to condone that action. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have. Please contact us at wowpetition or via this or these Twitter accounts @edwinmandella @TenPercent. Regards #WOWpetition *approximate
