Jani is an easy going girl with so much to offer. She has great house manners and has fit right into her foster home with 6 other dogs. Shes the ultimate athlete she loves to run, walk, hike, and swim! She enjoys being included in family activities and loves to ride in the car. Twice a week she goes to doggy daycare where she play and plays. Shes a very chill girl in the house and loves to snuggle. Information regarding Janis background indicates that her owner became homeless and had to give her up for adoption. In her past life, she lived with children and loved playing and chasing them but she is a strong, energetic dog that could be a bit much for toddlers. Always make sure that she is supervised around children and other dogs so that play does not get out of hand. Jani is also reported to love water and can be a food thief if given the chance. Jani is a sweet and loving dog that deserves a committed owner that will make sure she gets regular exercise and keeps up with all of the training that she has had. Jani graduated on Saturday, August 2, 2014 and is now residing in a foster home. Please call her foster mom Jenn at 208-866-1629 for more information about her. Jani recently completed training in the Inmate Dog Alliance Project of Idaho (IDAPI Program) where she lived with and was trained by inmates at one of the Idaho correctional centers. During this two-month period, the dogs live with the inmates in a prison setting and are trained daily in basic obedience. They are also house, leash and crate trained. The dogs are frequently taught a number of fun tricks such as shake with both paws, bow, spin, speak, sit up, crawl, wave, pray, play dead and many times can also perform some agility commands. They also learn to be good indoor companions while at the same time, they get to interact, play and bond with the other dogs in the program. At the end of the training period, these dogs are evaluated to make sure that they have been trained to do all of their required commands. Her trainers called her a loving dog that bonds quickly but can we a little independent at times. She will however, do most anything you want if you use a tennis ball as a reward for her. She is a strong dog that will need regular exercise and her rowdy play style may be a bit too much for some dogs even though she does enjoy their company and loves to play chase with them. Jani is a strong dog that may look intimidating to some people but she is a sensitive dog and loves to lay in your lap for cuddling and handling. According to her trainers in the IDAPI Program, she has took on the job of mothering the other dogs in the program and got along well with all of them. To apply for one of these dogs, you must complete an IDAPI application. If chosen, you will then be asked to attend a 2-hour workshop where you will learn the commands that the dog knows and how to work with her. If you are interested in applying for this dog or any dog in the IDAPI program, please contact Dee at the Idaho Humane Society and request an application.
