Janice A. Woods, age 78, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 4:20 P.M. on Friday, May 16, 2014 at St. Marys Good Samaritan Hospital in Centralia, Illinois. She was born in a park on June 12, 1935 in Waukegan, Illinois, the daughter of Walter and Mary E. (Arnold) Wickland. She married Steve “Junior” Woods on June 14, 1953 in Waukegan, Illinois and he preceded her in death on June 23, 1992 Mrs. Woods is survived by 3 sons Lee Woods of Centralia, Illinois, James Woods and wife Linda of Centralia, Illinois and Mat Woods and wife Kimberly of Centralia, Illinois, 1 daughter Mary Martin and husband Duane of Centralia, Illinois, 13 grandchildren Tammy, Christopher and Craig of California, Eddie, Allison, Christian, Nathan, Korey, Maua, Jeremy, Tyler, Cody and Matt of Centralia, Illinois, 8 great grandchild and 1 great great grandchild. In addition to her husband of 39 years, Mrs. Woods was preceded in death by her parents, son Steve Woods, 2 grandsons Seth Woods and Joshua Woods, 2 brothers Johnny Wickland and Arnold Wickland, 1 sister Eleanor Palmer and 2 friends Jeannette Hendricks and LeAnne Marshall. Mrs. Woods was baptized in the Episcopal faith. She was a member of America Legion Post # 446 Womens Auxiliary, Women of the Moose for 35 years, Forty & Eight and the D.A.V. and lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post # 2055 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Moose Riders. Mrs. Woods enjoyed playing bingo, making donations at the casino, reading murder mysteries, drinking Pepsi and traveling to places like Hawaii and Virgin Islands. She loved to bake sugar cookies and make fudge. She was an avid fan of the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Tweety Bird and Scooby-Doo. According to her family, “Our mother was always there to help someone in need and was considered an unofficial foster mother to many. She was called “Mom” and “Aunt Janice” by many of the people who knew her. She was know to be very forgiving when when it came to people. She loved the time she spent with her family especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mrs. Woods was homemaker. She has lived in Centralia, Illinois since 1976 and formerly lived in Waukegan, Illinois Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park near Centralia, Illinois. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday. May 20, 2014 and from 10:00 A.M. until time of services at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made in Mrs. Woods honor to the Forty & Eight Childrens Fund and will be received at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois.
