January 15, 1974...Happy Days Debuts On ABC Below is a video that aired February 25, 1972 on ABCs Love American Style. This is half to that nights one hour show and is the first time America meets the Cunningham family and a few of the Happy Days regulars. We even meet Richies older brother Chuck, but not Fonzie...who would later become the older brother type character to Richie. The segment Love And The Happy Days was used as pilot, but there was no interest, until... American Graffiti (1973) became a hit movie which convinced ABC to pick it up as the series Happy Days. The first few episodes were shot in single camera treatment with laugh tracks added.
