January 22 - Apples of Gold Consider the language employed today in society compared with that of the Jews, who regarded the name of God as so holy that they would not dare even to write or pronounce it. Modern Americans see no problem in using it as an adjective to emphasize a statement. It is used as a punch line in sitcoms. It is no longer revered. That being said, is our goal to force an outward conformity on people, or, through the demonstration of our lives and our words, do we faithfully preach the Gospel so that they may be changed from the inside out? The words of a person are but symptoms—and the Great Physician does not treat just symptoms, but rather seeks to cure the root problem. And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD. —Leviticus 19:12
