January 6, 2015: At approximately 10:48 am, the Alma Department of Public Safety responded to a personal injury accident at the intersection of Superior and Hannah. Police investigation showed that a minivan traveling east on Superior Street crossed the center lane and struck a pickup truck that was westbound on Superior Street. A witness stated that the minivan was travelling at excessive speeds prior to losing control. The male driver of the minivan, the only occupant in the vehicle, had to be extricated out of his vehicle prior to being transported to the Mid-Michigan Medical Center – Gratiot by Mobile Medical Response. It was later learned that the male driver of the minivan died while in transport to the trauma center in Midland. It is undetermined if the accident or death was a result of a prior medical issue. An autopsy has been scheduled. The male driver of the pickup truck was transported and later released from the Mid-Michigan Medical Center-Gratiot. A female passenger in the pickup truck was also transported to the Mid-Michigan Medical Center-Gratiot for an injury to her wrist. The Alma Police Department was assisted by Mobile Medical Response and the Alma District Fire Department.
