January 6, 2015. Todays Challenge Genesis 18:1 - 21:7 Remember: 1. Read the suggested passages every day. 2. Find a verse or verse that hold special meaning for you in that day. 3. Praise God and pray for others in light to the Scripture you covered. 4. Reflect on the passages meaning and possibly journal a few ideas that God might be sharing with you. Todays Reflection: In todays reading we see many things. We see God making a promise to Sarah to give her the son she has desired. We see Abraham plead with God to spare Sodom and Gomorrah for the sake of even 10 righteous souls (which would include his nephew Lot and his family). We see God sparing Lot even through the evil sinfulness of the citys men. We see Lots wife choosing death. We see Lot being deceived by his daughters and Abraham deceiving Abimelech. And finally we see the fulfilled promise, with Isaac finally being born. What a wonderful end to a horribly long year. for Abraham and his family. To see sin and sadness, to know cities torn apart and family members scattered. How sad is the human condition. They cry out asking God to show them how to be whole again - not in so many words, but in their faithful actions in continuing to obey God even through all the strife and waiting. Yet, God fulfilled His promise to them - in this is hope. How often can we think back even since January 1 of this New Year and already we are crying, show me how to be whole again? We seem to break on a daily basis and yet, God is still there, walking alongside of us and giving us all we need to be made whole again. Let us reflect on this year in the life of Abraham and Sarah, Lot and his daughters, ending in a promise made good. Let us rest in that hope that Gods promise are yay and amen. Let us have as many new beginnings as we need, as they did. They continued on and started over whenever necessary. God gave them the hope they needed, through Isaacs birth. God gives us hope, as well, and in that hope we can be made whole again. So today, worry not over anything that comes up. Follow God and be made whole again today. Trust His promises and start anew. Amen and Amen!! A good song to reflect upon as we remember Abraham, Lot and their families and the hardships they faced.
