January is National Mentoring Month and I would like to challenge all to take this time as a call to service. 2014 was a year where people of color took to the street to declare that Black Lives Matter but now in 2015 we must show our youth that they matter to us by donating our time to connect with them in an effort to combat images in the media they see everyday that portray them as a lost cause outside of sports and entertainment. Yes we cant reach each and every youth because factors like lack of family structure and upbringing are in many cases too hard to combat but what we can do is plant seeds in their minds that with proper enlightenment and mental irrigation have a chance to break the cycle that for many of them is generational. I believe that a CREED can be that catalyst and urge everyone to take time this and every month to share the CREED below with any youth you are able to come in contact with. Even if you are not able to actually sit and discuss what each line means to them it can be something they can carry with them along their journey in life of success instead of failure.
