Japanese scientists published the report to state Fukushima monkeys have serious blood problems in a significant negative correlation with muscle cesium concentration. On 7/24/2014, the report was published on “Nature”. It was written by Kazuhiko Ochiai from Nippon Veterinary and Life Science University, Setsuko Nakanishi from Conservation and Animal Welfare Trust, Tokyo, Japan et al. They compared a number of wild Japanese monkeys in 70km area and the other group of 400km area in April of 2012. They detected 78 ~ 1,778 Bq/Kg of Cesium from 70km area monkeys, whereas it was lower than the detectable level from 400km area monkeys. As a result of blood test, those 70km area monkeys had significantly low white and red blood cell counts, hemoglobin and hematocrit. Additionally, the white blood cell count among immature monkeys was in a significant negative correlation with muscle cesium concentration. Their study is showing the radioactive material released from Fukushima plant does affect the health of monkeys in surrounding area, which leads to the hypothesis that human beings might be affected as much as those monkeys too.
