Jasmine Park: Grade: 11th Years in KSYO: 6 Instrument: Violin What inspires you to play? I’m inspired by all of the history and emotion that can be found in a piece, and I will always be grateful for the ability to express those feelings through music. How do you practice and what’s your best advice for young musicians for practicing? Make a schedule and stick to it! Other activities/hobbies that you do: I enjoy sunsets and taking long walks on the beach… or just good books and playing piano. How has your instrument made an impact on your life? Playing the violin has given me an appreciation for music and also an understanding of how powerful it can be. What’s your favorite piece? My favorite piece that I’ve played would have to be Csárdás by Monti, because it’s so expressive and lots of fun to play. Who inspires you musically? My aunt is a violinist and I remember listening to her play when I was younger. She was always so exciting to hear and her playing was what prompted me to learn violin. What is your favorite musical memory? My favorite musical memory was sitting in the second violin section of the Youth Chamber Orchestra when we were playing Adagio for Strings. The quality of our performance may have been questionable, but I loved being in the middle of the orchestra and hearing all the notes mix together. It felt like I was enveloped in a wall of sound and I will never forget the experience.
