Jasmines mom here.. I lost Jasmine a little over two weeks ago, I miss her every single day and wish she was here. However, I do know she was ready to go and it would have been selfish to make her stay with me. With that being said, I vowed I would continue on and help other dogs, namely seniors in her honor. I just didnt know when. Last Thursday this little old man was brought to my attention. He was surrendered to the largest open intake kill shelter in Indiana. His mom/dad (not sure which) passed away and the family didnt have time for him. So he sat shaking in a kennel confused and scared after spending 14 loyal years with his person. My heart broke thinking back to the day I met Jasmine who also was surrendered to the same shelter as a senior. I knew he needed out of there and I knew I had to help him. I dont know if there is ever a good time to open your heart to love another dog after losing one that was so special.. or to take on a senior knowing that maybe he wont have that much time left. What I did know is he needed someone and that someone just happened to be me. I know Jasmine would be proud and I think they wouldve been good friends. Meet Carlos, hes a 14 year old Pom who resembles a fox. He has no bottom teeth, minimal hearing, bad peripheral vision, his joints are stiff, and hes taking extra time to figure out that Im here to help him. Hes a bit jumpy and scared sometimes, I would be too. He lost his parent, lost his home, ended up in a shelter, and now is living with some strange woman with 3 big dogs and 3 cats. Hes integrated into my pack of misfits and he does very well with all of them. They of course are very respectful of him, just as they were to Jas. He is not Jasmine, nor will be ever replace her. The only two things they have in common really is they are both senior Poms. Jas was very trusting and easy going from the get go, you could do anything with her. Carlos is making me work for it. But thats ok, he is safe and I will make sure he is loved and Ill continue to work towards him trusting me fully. He is being sponsored much like Jasmine through the Mended Hearts Rescue Friends Of Gladys fund.
