Jason here with a few thoughts on 2014.... 2014 was definitely our best and most productive year as a band. I feel like we were able to finally solidify our 5 piece lineup; though Christopher Steinburg joined us on guitar 2 years ago, its taken time to really gel and to learn what that extra sound means for GGWW. Chriss playing has added more color and dynamics to our sound, and has made us as heavy as we need to be. As a result, Im more inspired in my riff-writing because of the possibilities and layers the second guitar opens up. Im very proud to say that Chris, Greg, Justin, and Jars contributions to the music have made Good Guys Wear Wolf the band that Ive always wanted to be in, and their friendship and commitment mean the world to me. Back to 2014.... This year saw us play more shows than previous years, which enabled us to reach more new fans and to make some new friends in the Eau Claire and NW Wisconsin/Minnesota area scene. Most notable of those new friends are Eau Claires Caveat, who Im unable to tag at the moment. Caveat have been super sweet to us over the last year, helping us get shows or helping us to promote our own shows. They play an excellent brand of heavy sludge metal with post-rock elements thats extremely satisfying and always evolving. If you like some very heavy metal, PLEASE take the time to check out their FB page even though I cant tag it. :) . I also want to take a second to mention some of the other cool bands weve played with or watched as well; check out Puncher, No Funeral, American Zero, We Are Legion, Mordwolf, Maeth, Tyranny Is Tyranny, Morality Crisis, Witchden, Wicked Inquisition, Red Desert, Kids With Boats, and probably a bunch of others I cant remember or tag in this post. 2014 saw our proudest accomplishment as a band, the release of our first full length CD, Dances With Snakes. We recorded it in Chetek, WI at Tom Kutriebs Audio Dojo. Tom has been a good friend to us over the last few years, and put a lot of work and attention into the album. Always patient and helpful, Tom made the process fun and relaxed. The album turned out beyond my expectations and Im very proud to have finally gotten it out, physically and emotionally. The rest of the band brought their best to the music, which was hugely inspiring for me in the studio. The release show at The Mousetrap Tavern in Eau Claire (with Puncher and No Funeral) was a blast, coinciding with the annual Zombie Pub Crawl. It was a great time! The disc has been fairly well received, and is available physically through us or a site called CD Baby, or you can download it on sites like iTunes, Spotify, or Rdio. Releasing this album is not only a huge accomplishment for the band, but for me personally; for me its the realization of a life-long goal, and I couldnt be happier with it! However, it took many months to finish it, as we all have lives and jobs and things going on. We picked away at it for many months. When we werent in the studio, we were at rehearsal. In the time it took us to record and mix our CD, wed written the majority of a solid second album! Justin and I spent a day at Toms last weekend laying down basic tracks for those tunes, so look for some new music to surface in the next few months! Anyway, this has been a great year, and I want to thank the rest of the band, our families and friends, and everyone whos taken the time to support us and check out our music; it means a lot to me to be able to play music with such a great bunch of people. Now lets see what 2015 has in store!
