Jaya Guru Datta. Friday, June 27, 2014, at 3:50 in the afternoon. Twenty saffron clad priests are chanting Vedic mantras during the Abishekam (milk bath), of a pure crystal Shiva Lingam. The giant crystal lingam is beautifully decorated, shining in the background, silent in its magnificent form. Every ritual has great significance in Hindu tradition. A Shiva Lingam represents the Formless Power in the universe; the origin of all the matter and events. (God Source Energy, Creator of Good, dissolving not good). Abishekam is a traditional and ancient symbolic bathing ritual, using a liquid consisting mostly of milk. Included in the rite is the use of mantras, kriyas and mudras, (various aspects of energy, sight, sound, fragrance, internal, external energy). Sound, thoughts, actions, all are from On Source Energy. Everything is energy vibrating at different frequencies. Symbolic bathing, (Abishekam), is designed to cleanse and purify energy. The mantras vibrate with ancient, pure, empowered frequencies that are absorbed into the liquid poured over the Lingam. The Lingam is also releasing positive energy of Lord Shiva into the liquid. This liquid, (Teertham), is rich with magnified energy, which is then shared as an additional purifier to those observing the Abishekam. By absorbing even a small amount of the teertham, the mind, body and energy field of the person receives the cleansed purified energetic vibrations which uplift their overall being, (frequency). Perhaps this is where the idea of medicine evolved from, when an injection containing liquid is prescribed by a doctor or psychiatrist? It is all energetic mind, body, spirit, energy.
