Jealousy and its Cures…. Jealousy and envy is among the most destructive emotions or feeling which a man may have towards his fellow human being. It causes him to wish evil for others and to be happy when misfortune befalls them. The Prophet (S.a.w.w) warned against envy by comparing it to fire that completely burns the wood. He (s.a.w.w) said: Beware of jealousy, for verily it destroys good deeds the way fire destroys wood.[Abu Dawood] Allahs Messenger (s.a.w.w) was asked who are the best of people? He (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) replied: the one with a clean heart and truthful tongue. They asked: We understand a truthful tongue, but what does a clean heart mean? he answered: It is the heart of one that is pious, pure, and is free of sin, transgressions, hatred and Hasad. [Ibn Majah] Narrated from al-Zubayr Ibn al-Awam that the Prophet (s.a.w.w) said: There has come to you the disease of the nations before you, jealousy and hatred. This is the shaver; I do not say that it shaves hair, but that it (destroys) faith… [Tirmidhee 2434] Pay attention to the following wise saying: 1 -Less jealousy, more health. 2 - It is surprising that jealous people are totally careless about their physique. 3 - Liar has no virility and a jealous no rest. 4 - The jealous is in grief and the miser is rebuked. 5 -A miser cannot have peace nor a jealous pleasure. 6 - One who does not suppress jealousy makes his body his own grave. THE REMEDY: The disease of envy is remedied by frequently praising the person against whom the jealousy is directed. Praise him no matter how difficult this may seem. Honor him and meet him with respect and humility. You may also read the following prayer of forgiveness that has been related from Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him):O Allāh, I seek Your forgiveness for every sin that You decreed upon me due to my self-conceitedness ostentation, desire to be heard, malevolence, rancor ,treachery, pride, rebellion, envy, insolence, insolent ungratefulness ,zealotry (for other than Allāh), partisanship, acquiescing hope extreme niggardliness generosity, cunning theft falsehood backbiting idle pastime unprofitable talk calumny play or any such activity that draws sin and pursuing it brings destruction and grief.
