Jeff & Paul ... Starting a separate thread here RE Uber. I may have a slightly different perspective on this as a guy who takes 10-20 taxi or Uber rides a month. Cab companies are far from blameless in this mix ... But thats probably not your point. For me, the key is that Uber is an *app* company and they franchise administration of the app on a city-by-city basis. They are not a transportation company anymore than match is an escort service. Yes, they have room for cleaning up their act. But theyre making the market more efficient and waaaaaaay better for consumers (and for virtually every Uber driver I talk to). Bottom line for me? The more I hire the independent, self-employed drivers who use the Uber app, the more I absolutely love them (the drivers) and the high-tech ride-sharing alternative their services provides (as opposed to the antiquated taxi industry that hasnt modernized or innovated in decades).
