Jefferson advocated for the creation of the DNC because the Federalists (soon to be GOP) were outrageously enlarging the scope of the Federal Govt. The DNC politicians were split on slavery, and the GOP, focused on a centrally planned US empire, used slavery as political tool, first trying to amend the constitution making slavery permanent in the South and then, due to expediency only, advocating freedom of slaves to help win the war. Lincoln and the GOP demonstrably did not care about the black slaves as the remediation efforts after the war were focused on recompense of former slave owners who had lost their property. The slaves were denied homesteading rights due all other citizens for lands they had worked for years/decades. This is clear as day for any vigilant student. Start with Lincolns letter to Greeley on the subject just a few months before the emancipation proclamation. Throughout the 19th century it was the DNC that fought against central banking (Jefferson & Jackson killed the first two), against tariffs, meddling in markets, etc. The 19th century, in the North mostly until slavery was halted, was the most successful century for any country in history in terms of economic progress measured as standard of living improvements for all socio-economic classes, by a wide margin. The change started near the end of the 19th century, in fact, with the McKinley election. Both parties began to become more corrupt and instead of being ideologically focused, i.e, the DNC on liberty and the GOP on empire, began peddling legalized injustice to various constituents, just as Jefferson & Calhoun predicted decades earlier. The country has been all downhill sense when long term trends are examined instead of near term ones. The rate of institutionalized injustice, Govt parasitism, market intervention, cartelization, which failed throughout the 19th century in free markets, all are trending worse.
