Jehangir Bader has become extraordinary because of following the extraordinary Bhuttos Islamabad July 4, 2013: President Asif Ali Zardari has felicitated PPP central leader Senator Jahangir Bader on the award of Ph D degree in Pakistan Studies by the Punjab University for his research thesis on Shaheed Benazir Bhutto as an iconic political leader. In his message of felicitations the President also paid tributes to Jahangir Bader for his decades’ long struggle for democracy under the leadership of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohatarma Benazir Bhutto. A notification issued by the Punjab University Wednesday has declared Jahangir Bader to have passed the examination of the degree of Doctorate of Philosophyin Pakistan Studies after approval of his thesis titled “Political Leaders: A Case study of Benazir Bhutto”. Spokesperson Senator FarhatullahBabar quoting the President said that the hallmark of an extra-ordinarily towering leader was that every one who came in touchwith them also became extraordinary. Jahangir Bader has become extraordinary because of his association with and followingin the footsteps of the most extra ordinary leaders of our time, namely the Shaheed Bhuttos, he quoted the President as saying. The thesis leading to the PhD is graphic account of the monumental resistance and resilience of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto from the time when her father was overthrown in 1977 and later judicially executed till 1988 when she became the Muslim’s world’s first and at the age of 35 the youngestfemale Prime Minister any where in the world. This twelve year period 1977-1988 sees a young woman catapulted into the rough and tumble of politics and wadingthrough the agony of her father’s execution, brothers’ banishment into exile, mother’s incarceration and the hounding, lashing, imprisonment and hanging of political workers. As a witness and participant in the events of the time Jahangir Bader was himself lashed and imprisoned. The tumultuous 12 year period culminates into her becoming the Prime Minister and taking oath from the man who loathed her and Bhuttos and had incarceratedher husband on charges of corruption. The thesis is a saga of triumph and tragedy and of resistance and resilience of a woman who eventually triumphedover her adversaries through people’s power, perseverance andepic struggle This historic triumphwas dramatized in the cryptic remarks at the time of oath takingthat she had avenged the execution of her father Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Seldom before a young woman had been so wronged and seldom before she had avenged so completely as Shaheed Benzir did when she took oath as Prime Minister in December 1988, said President Zardari in his message. The President in his message said that Shaheed Benazir a national treasure and an institution. She was an iconic leader who led from the front the struggle for democracy with a tenacity of purpose that was matched only by her wisdom and vision. She willcontinue to inspire generations ofdemocracy loving people to tread in her footsteps. Her life story will motivate academics, scholars and researchers to throw light on her multi-dimensional personality thateventually led to her phenomenal triumph while wading through the seas of reselience and resistance, the President said in his message. President Zardari said that the Ph D thesis of Jahangir Bader will serve as a valuable addition to thetreasure house of material on the political life and achievements of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. The President also expressed the hopethat the award of doctorate to Jahangir Bader will inspire academics to carry out research inthe life and struggle of all those who have waged heroic struggle for democracy and illumine the path of future generations.
