Jehovah Jireh - The Lord will Provide. These are the words I heard frequently as a child. My dad pastored a small church in Western PA and money always seemed tight. As kids, we heard their prayers, lived the need, and saw God respond over and over again. It was amazing to watch. Whether cash, a check, food, or something material, my dad rejoiced the same way every time God flew in what he called a dove of provision. He would let out a whoop, announce Jehovah Jireh, and give a fist pump celebrating Gods victory. Well I guess its dove season again and todays mailbox was the nest. Thank you to those who blessed us with your gifts. May Gods favor settle in upon you in a special way. As I opened both letters, God reminded me of a question from a hymn I havent thought of in a very long time. Can I doubt his tender mercy who through life has been my guide? Tonight, at family devotions, we told the boys about Gods dove of provision. And the tears that came when I opened the mail didnt take long to resurface. Last year had its challenges and 2015 begins with some uncertainty, but, with the psalmist in 119:50, I take comfort in the fact that Gods promise gives me life. He will not fail to provide and guide. He is faithful. His track record is impeccable. For those not already humming the tune, the hymn is entitled, All The Way My Savior Leads Me. Take some time to look at your own life through the words of that song. Its comfort will give you the strength needed to get up tomorrow and face your day and your need with Jehovah, your Provider.
