Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the Plans I have for you declares the Lord, Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and future. The service today and throughout a rough year for most of the year. We had ups, downs, burn out, discouragement, determination beyond what many of us felt, and learning to encourage one another. Today’s service may have been cold/freezing in the sanctuary, but red hot in spirit. The temperature was just 42-43 degrees in the sanctuary with I arrived this morning arrived at 7:45 AM Sunday morning for set up. Henry and I repeatedly follow-up upon Richard Lilly’s hand written directions he wrote at 4 AM this morning. The repairman came in and we started having heat as the service started. Only the office, chapel, and Kirk Hall had heat. Susan and Jolie Elliott open the service with the 4th Sunday of Advent reading and candles lighting. Hans was our layleader today. The worship service were led by more people than we had mic stands, (Ian, Scott, Eunice, Henry, Susan, Jolie, and Sherly), and it was very wonderful! It such a blessing. Ian on violin for worship and offertory was awesome. Nancy serving with me on Sight & Sound was great and encouraging with a conversation we had. Katerina greeting was a blessing. Carol’s children church was outstanding! Pastor Jon pulled out a buffet of encouragement! The sermon title was “The Trouble with God’s Favor“with the theme of “When God chooses us He gives us difficulty so we must rely on Him totally.” The scripture passages were Isaiah 30:18-26, Luke 1:26-38, & Galatians 2:20. Pastor Jon showed us how Joseph and Mary illustrated the theme leading up to and beyond the birth of Jesus, how things happen in our lives and how faith in God in the trouble times is built, and how our obedience and faith is an example of God’s love for those around us. The 4 points that we can realized God’s purpose and encouragement are: *Know the Lord Loves Us. *Realize the “Big Picture” vs Woe is Me. (Constant growth) *God gives us instruction, comfort, & insurance of His provisions. (Galatians 2:20 & Romans 8:28) *Troubles make us be humble before the Lord & how nothing is impossible with God. (Isaiah 30:20-21).
