Jersey Outlaws Racing Association: Waretown 8/10/2014 - Racing Recap Once again the Garveys and Jersey Speed Skiffs returned to race the waters of Waretown, much to the delight of the fans. The sun was bright, the skies were clear, and the water was calm, as the racing began. The first heat was quite interesting, pitting the Kat Scratch (G-82), a two-barrel garvey, against Temper Tantrum (G-45), a 358 class garvey in a free-for-all type match. While the Kat Scratchs light weight helped it keep pace with the Temper Tantrum, the 358 boat wasnt about to let the Kat see clean water. After the intermission, Temper Tantrum continued its screaming fit, with another win. Experiencing engine troubles, the Kat shut it down in order to spare one of its nine lives. Switching to the Jersey Speed Skiffs, the Outsider (JS-195) had one of his best races of the season in the first match up against the Ante-Up (JS-76), piloted by its builder, the well renowned Cesare Simonelli, and the Patriot (JS-24). The Outsider held off his challenger to claim the checkered flag in the first heat, with Ante-Up and Patriot finishing second and third, respectively. The tables turned in the second heat; however, when the Outsider lost oil pressure. Quick work by the pilot prevented another lesson in smoke signaling; but the Ante-Up and Patriot duked it out, with the nod going to the Ante-Up. Now to the 350 stock class. Theres a saying that goes, every dog has its day. Well at Waretown, Snoopy (G-0) had his. The 350-A heat started off with Rumblefish (G-22), blasting off at the start with the Indian Summer (G-23) glued to his side in a race for the holeshot, with Snoopy not far behind. As the boats rounded turn two on the second lap, Indian Summer sent up a smoke signal that everyone understood: Engine failure. After they were towed in, Rumblefish and Snoopy restarted the race from a standstill. The two boats stayed neck and neck for the remainder of the heat, with Snoopy eeking out Rumblefish by a nose. The 350-B heat pitted Kat Scratch (G-41), against Temper Tantrum and the Duck Boat (G-91). The Duck had to scratch, so Snoopy returned to the track to fill out the line up. Kat Scratch clawed right along for the victory in that heat. The afternoon heat saw Rumblefish, Kat Scratch, Snoopy, and the Duck Boat, battle it out against Waretowns infamous chop. Rumblefish shot out front again and held on for the first place finish. Some fancy footwork and driving allowed the Duck Boat to finish with a respectable second place. Kat Scratch and Snoopy finished third and fourth, respectively. Stay tuned for the next upcoming race on August 24th, when the Outlaws head to Tuckerton! Special thanks goes to the Berkeley Township Underwater Search And Rescue team, for always being on point and at the ready, should the need arise.
