Jesus guides us to use our wealth wisely. Thursday Jesus said, ‘And if you cannot be trusted with what is not yours, who will give you what is your very own?’ (Lk 16:12) Be careful here. Jesus is not talking about public property which many do not care for. Rather he is speaking of the things ‘entrusted’ to us, actually given into our care like our gifts and talents, yes, even our wealth. How we use these show the state of our heart. Indeed, if we use these things the right way, we will come home to ourselves, we will own our own hearts and not be devoured by our greed and passions. Loving Jesus, show me how I can care for what you have given me: wealth, talents, gifts. Teach me how to be a trustworthy steward. Pray the prayer that Jesus taught us: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen. Continue your prayer through this day by naming the wealth, gifts and talents Jesus wants you to use.
