Jesus ministered twice to a man before he was healed. (Mark 8:23-25) So John Lake would pray as many times as necessary to bring deliverance to a hurting person, whether the problem was physical or spiritual. To Lake the power to pray through to victory was not something to be received and treated as a matter of course. It often meant sleepless nights battling with the hosts of unbelief [both around him and within him. Of course his strong tool was the Word of God.] But Jesus wielded this power, and the sons who have carried on His work ever since have needed the same. Lake had known the need of nights of prayer, and wherever men have been willing to deny themselves their nights of sleep that they might abandon themselves to prayer, revival followed. God is looking for intercessors who are also doers of the Word. For every hour of intersession trust God to give you two hours of labor in the field by laying hands whenever you can It only took three on a hilltop while the thousands battled the enemy. (Ex 17:9-16) If you are not one of the three, put the word of God on your lips as your sword, and go out and fight. Jesus said, “…He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto My Father.” (John 14:12) “For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure into him.” (John 3:34) God does not expect us to carry on the ministry of Jesus with less equipment than He had. We have indwelling Holy Spirit, the Old Testament, plus the New Testament revelation. In that sense we have more tools than Jesus had. We need to set our sights high and refuse the traditions of men that say it is impossible to do as Jesus instructed us. (Reidt, Wilford, “John G. Lake, A Man Without Compromise,” 1989, Harrison House, Tulsa, OK, pages 50-52.) You go for the instant, but are prepared for the long battle. Lake had experienced thousands of instant or immediate healings, yet interspersed among them were some with long battles. He remained undaunted if it took longer. He knew each one was a fight to the death, no matter how long it took. This is why he told people to come to the healing rooms for 30 days and they would see improvement if not full healing. The reality is that in a healing line situation or in Wal-Mart, i.e., street ministry, you have to blast to victory for each one, right then, as you cannot spend much time with each one. With practice you can get to 90-100% immediate healings. In a visitation or healing room situation, you may have more time and the person is generally more cooperative. Even then, you still blast through for each one, and if needed, stay on it until victory; else you will have a backlog of ministry. If you tell the devil by your behaviors, that you will not stir up for battle and/or will not fight long, then soon every ministry opportunity will be a battle just longer than you will fight
