Jewellery seems to be the main item targeted during a spate of recent burglaries in Onerahi according to local constable Aaron Furze. Over the last two weeks he estimates around 10 home burglaries, particularly in the Ross and Church Sts and Raurimu areas. “My advice I’d like to strongly get out there is to photograph and get a good description of your jewellery, as well as keeping an eye out for suspicious behaviour,” he said. He said that many of the burglaries, which were likely carried out on foot, had occurred in particularly bad weather. “Burglars are smart so they target days when they know people are either going to be tucked up inside or at work, rather than when people could be out in the garden.” He added that fellow constable Spence Penney and himself are well aware of the recent burglaries and are doing all they can to catch those responsible. “We ask that if anybody wishes to supply any information to contact us in confidence on 436 0222.
