Jezebel has been posting a series on the retouching of celebrities - TopicsExpress

Jezebel has been posting a series on the retouching of celebrities to rebunk the myth of the feminine ideal. Below are the links to Lena Dunham who is in her 20s and Mariah Carey and Faith Hill who are mommies. In the GIFs youll see jawlines thinned, waists pulled in, necks lengthened, legs defined, stretchmarks erased, eye bags removed, cheek indentations erased, cleavage covered, etc. all to create a Vogue look that makes for very pretty pictures, but an impossible standard to achieve for the selfie era. Interestingly, Adam Driver was barely retouched. Granted hes submerged in a bathtub and they did mess with his knee, but it makes for an interesting conversation for those of us who are having a hard time seeing themselves in pics. A friend posted on her Facebook wall yesterday about how critical she is of the way she looks in pics and will delete many pics that her friends like. I think this plays a large part. At first, I thought Jezebel was attacking Lena Dunham in a very mean-spirited way as theres a moral issue in having not gotten the subjects permission. Everyone takes good and bad pics and it could have been very upsetting to the actress and singers. But as it turned out, the pics were minimally retouched, just little tweaks here and there. What the series is really showing is that no matter what you do, the only way to achieve the look is through photoshop. Luckily for the rest of us there are filters, lol. jezebel/here-are-the-unretouched-images-from-lena-dunhams-vogu-1503336657 jezebel/retouch-my-body-terry-richardson-pix-of-mariah-carey-b-1603712028 jezebel/278919/heres-our-winner-redbook-shatters-our-faith-in-well-not-publishing-but-maybe-god
